Winter in Florida

Winter in Florida is the reason many move to this sunny state. Away from the snow and freezing temps, Florida has been advertised as a tropical paradise.  While it's true that there are houses in my street that have palm trees and I also have a small palmetto tree in front of my house - I'm not experiencing the tropical climes that Florida's reputation holds. But then again, I've not had to shovel snow from my sidewalk to get to my car.

When I have to put on my heavy jacket to take my dog out in the morning, I am reminded that it does get cold here in Florida! We've had several nights of high 20's. Walking down the street, you see shrubs and plants shrouded with bed sheets to protect them. News reports talk about the danger to the strawberry and citrus crops and you are reminded just how much local growers have to lose if their crops freeze.

Being a huge fan of Disney World, it is on those cold days when I think of all those tourists from northern states coming for the sun and warmth; looking forward to dips in the resort pools and wearing short sleeves and perhaps even shorts. But these people are troupers. I've been to a Disney resort on a pretty cool day when I wouldn't even consider sticking my big toe in the pool. But there would always be some intrepid visitors splashing about.  Granted, the pool is heated but you've got to come out sometime!

All in all, Florida isn't a bad place to live in the winter. Those cold days don't last for weeks on end and in fact temps can go from 60's during one day to the 80's the next.

Again, I haven't had to shovel snow one time since I've been here. Though I do miss it at Christmas time.

The weather has been crazy around the country this year. It's gonna get up to almost 60 here today and that's odd for Colorado in January.

Mel...if you send me a list of the graphics that you can remember having, I'd be glad to send them to you again. I think from here on out, I really need to keep a list of who bought what. I used to, but some are years old and I've lost track.

Also, what font are you using on your blog and how did you get it to work. I love it!

I have never been to FL but I try to tell my husband that going to FL in January isn't like going to Cancun! It isn't worth dragging our camper down there until at least March or April...?

We have had really strange weather for Missouri. Temperatures all over the board and only 1/4 inch snow.

Hi Melanie,

Florida in winter sounds lots like our winter climate, while I always wish we had snow, I think that year after year I would be sick of it.
Have a great weekend.

Hugs Suzanne

It has been cool this week Melanie, but this weekend is suppose to be low of 52 and high of 76. That is just about perfect for me.

Hi Melanie,
Brrr! Cold mornings and evenings here too! Warms up nicely during the day though. Lots of people in the pool.
Looking forward to seeing you! Hugz!

Hi Melanie! I always feel bad for tourists when we have crummy weather, too. We get a lot of May Gray and June Gloom at our beaches and tourists don't expect that. Saw you're meeting up with Marge at Disney World- have fun! I just uploaded my weekend post. We're meeting Justin's new girlfriend this weekend! :)

The funny thing is... when you come in from the temperatures from the Northern states or Wintery areas... Florida's temps do seem pretty mild! Would love to be there right now! We had blowing dust this weekend. UGH!
