Feeling a bit old today.

It all started with making sure that all of my grandkids' birthdays were on my Yahoo calendar. I depend on that gadget even though I do have the names and dates printed up on a sheet of paper and stuck on my bulletin board. With 11 grandchildren, I need all the help I can get.

I decided to include on my birthday list my kid's and their spouses' birthdays as well as everyone's birth year; everyone's birth year except those of my daughter in laws and son in law, of course.  They've not volunteered and I haven't asked. I'm not that kind of mother in law.

Somehow, you just always think of your kids as young. Even when they are married, have kids of their own and are graying at the temples, they are still young. Imagine my surprise when I saw the cold, hard facts....
This year...
~my first born will be 43 years old.
~my middle child will be 40 years old.
~my "baby" will be 29 years old.
~my first grandchild will be 21 years old.
I was a bit stunned. When did this all happen? I even used my calculator and sure enough.....I'm getting old.

But, I'm really not complaining. I have been blessed with three healthy children, all who love the Lord and are making life work in their own fashion.  I have 11 grandchildren ranging from 20 to 1 year of age. I have 2 lovely daughters in law and a fantastic son in law. I have a grand daughter in law. And I'm sure in the future there will be a great grand child to add to the mix.

Then I will REALLY feel old.

  1. so are the seasons of our lives! You are ONE BLESSED LADY! I can only keep praying that my children will produce good fruit for the Lord. Growing in His Grace and Mercy each day. I am in between your older 2 kids...and I feel old at times. I look at my 20 year old daughter and like you, "when did this happen? I can't be old enough to have a daughter in college!" Thank the Lord for His blessings!

  2. Thanks for the reminder, I have not added birthdays to my new calendar yet. I sure will forget someone if I do not. We are getting older but we sure are blessed!!!

  3. Congratulations on your beautiful family. I only have 10 grandchildren but I have one great-granchild. That makes 11 doesn't it? One more thing we have in common, huh?

  4. Funny you should mention birthdays because my dad called asking me for birthdays too. One day I told him"growing old sucks!" and he just laughed and said "tell me about it" But like you, I have many blessings. Have a great week! Hugs

  5. We are much the same in our family ages - except mine are a few years older than yours - it sure creeps up on you doesn't it? But I try not to focus on the negs of it all - you're only as young as you feel - right?
    Blessings!

  6. I don't like to think I'm getting old, but I know I am, but everything is relative... a lot of 'oldies' still think I'm a spring chicken ;-)

  7. Sounds like you have just counted your blessings! Age does not really bother me... and I have never thought about a birth year as a particularly dreaded year. But this year, turning 50, I had a problem. Why? Because my first born was turning 30! That one blind sided me for a bit. I really did not know how to take that. It came, it went... and I am okay. But just the realization.

    Thank you for sharing today.
